Plant Lyfe, a comfort food vegan establishment located in Cheapside Market, is a hidden gem that ticks all the right boxes. Give it some time, and I bet that I will be saying, “I ate at that place back when I did not have to make a reservation, and had a casual chit chat with the owner/chef!” The Caribbean flavors of the menu items are simply wonderful!

Allison, the founder and owner, is a Bajan chef who used to live in New York. When she moved back in 2014, she found it challenging to find vegan food she liked. So, she started Coconut Baby, a vegan dessert business. A few years later, she started Plant Lyfe.

Allison is on a mission to make affordable and tasty vegan fast food available to the general public. And it is indeed affordable!

When I visited Plant Lyfe, I ordered the stuffed sweet plantains, a “fish” sandwich (made from artichoke), a fresh passion fruit juice, and a bottle of water, all for BD 30 (USD 15). The first thing that came out of my mouth was, “all of this for BD 30!?” I was shook. Also, her daily special is always BD 12 (USD 6).

Allison has 3,640 Instagram followers for Coconut Baby and 1,815 followers for Plant Lyfe. The followers keep growing. There is no doubt that for an island as small as Barbados where vegan food is slowly being embraced, Allison's food is loved and becoming well-known.
