Original Fish Spot (Dominica)

Dominica's version of a tasty ‘fish & chips shop.’

At the Original Fish Spot, you look in a freezer, select the type of whole fish you want, and then choose between two preparation methods. You can have your chosen fish steamed in a foil parcel or fried. If you get the fish steamed, a broth is created inside the foil parcel. You may or may not want to slurp up the broth after eating the tender flesh of the fish – of course, I chose to slurp the broth; it was that good! The meal comes with a side of green plantain fries.

They call the Original Fish Spot the Caribbean version of a ‘fish & chips shop.’ That said, it does not come with the cheap price point of a fish and chips shop. At 60 EC (about USD 22.2), this is on the higher end of meals I had in Dominica. Perhaps the cost is a higher because the interior decoration of the restaurant was recently upgraded. Costs aside, I really enjoyed the meal and the company of the friendly staff.
