Minca is a peaceful and serene village perched 600 meters (1968.5 feet) high up in the Sierra Nevada mountain range above Santa Marta city. It’s the perfect place to relax and interact with nature. In Minca, the climate is cool and the views spectacular. There are also plenty of refreshing mountain streams and waterfalls.
I stayed at the beautiful Casa Viejas hostel, located on a 500-hectare coffee farm called Finca La Victoria. I did the hostel activities, including hikes, yoga classes, coffee tours, and birdwatching.
The Sierra Nevada houses one of the most diverse bird species globally – over 270 exotic species, including nine endemic species are found around Finca La Victoria.
The coffee tour was the least stimulating for me. Compared to the coffee tours and the coffee I had while in Salento (a town in the coffee triangle of Colombia), the tour offered at Casa Viejas was lackluster, as I only got to see the factory. However, if you don’t plan on going to Salento, definitely do the coffee tour here, because the coffee was good.
Any tourist accommodation in Minca will offer lots of the same wonderful activities - make sure to take at least 100 USD worth of cash in Pesos because some activities only accept cash.
Working with locals, I provide you with uniquely curated experiences and recommendations that get you off the beaten track and into the heart of the community you travel to.
