The thing about fear is that once conquered it is replaced by a freedom to live fuller and experience deeper. The first time I went canyoning with Extreme Dominica, while members of my the canyoning group did, I refused to jump off the cliff. I was paralyzed by fear so I rappelled down instead.
A few weeks later, I conquered my fear of diving in the open seas with Nature Island Divers and I became a little more fearless and lot braver. So, I went canyoning again to experience the adventure in a new state of mind. Click on the video below to see how my second experience was and me jumping off that cliff.
I participated in the novice canyoning offer both times. For the adrenaline seekers or professional canyoners there is a more advanced trail where you get to rappel down a 100 ft waterfall and jump off higher cliffs. That is on my list for the next time I am in Dominica.
The cost for a half day experience quoted online ranges from USD 159 to USD 279. Here are a few tips if you like to save some money.
Don’t automatically book your experience online. Arrive in Dominica and call. Things tend to be cheaper in Dominica offline and you might just be lucky especially when paying cash.
Be flexible and join a group, depending on availability, instead of booking a personal trip for you and one other person; there is a minimum of two people needed.
Consider going to Dominica during off season (June to November). Things in general are cheaper. This also happens to be during hurricane season so you will be taking a little risk like I did.
Working with locals, I provide you with uniquely curated experiences and recommendations that get you off the beaten track and into the heart of the community you travel to.
