EcoStay Bus, as stated in the name, is a bus! Specifically, it is a transformed Mercedes bus once used by the Barbados Transport Board. Nestled within the lush greenery of the East Coast, there is nothing like it. At USD 47 a night, the bus is also the cheapest eco-conscious accommodation that I found in Barbados.
The bus literally tells a story.
The front told me that the owners are Formula One fans and that the bus runs on solar energy. The artwork and words displayed along the side of the bus told me a little bit about some of the guests who visited throughout the years.
This is not a roughing-it-out-in-the-woods kind of a bus. It has a gas stove, an indoor sink, compostable flushable toilet, an outdoor shower that uses collected rainwater, and onsite compositing and recycling. The lovely owners of the bus, Grahame and Andrea, live in a tree house on a hill a stone’s throw away. The view from their house is spectacular!
Everything about EcoStay Bus helped me to focus on the simplicity of life, embrace nature, and reflect on being kind to the environment.
FYI, if you decide to stay here, make sure to have a lot of effective insect repellent. You are basically in the woods.
