Cuzz, the owner of Cuzz Fish Shack, is a celebrity. Veronica, a local who originally suggested the fish shack to me, said, “until you have tried Cuzz’s fish sandwich, you have not been to Barbados!” It was as if the universe was conspiring for me to try the food, because the next day, Philip (another local who was not aware of my conversation with Veronica) suggested we get food at Cuzz before we started a day of shooting around Barbados. So we went, but it was closed; the Cuzz does not have set opening times. That did not deter us - we went back a few hours later.
It was clear when we arrived that the small shack, painted deep blue and located at the end of a large parking lot, was a popular joint amongst locals.
The menu is simple and has only seven items. The fish was generously seasoned and grilled to flakey perfection. The fish in the sandwich was so juicy and tasty, I closed my eyes when I took the first bite so I could savor the flavors. There was absolutely no need to add any of the condiments available.
Cuzz is jovial and easygoing, which made the whole experience incredibly pleasant. He even paused for me to take a picture. So my readers, meet Cuz!
The shack is located on the parking lot between The Hilton Hotel and The Radisson Hotel on the South of the island in an area called Aquatic Gap. The shack is open from Monday to Friday. While there is no set opening time, go around noon and it will definitely be open.
Working with locals, I provide you with uniquely curated experiences and recommendations that get you off the beaten track and into the heart of the community you travel to.
