Cocoa Cottage is a one-of-a-kind boutique guesthouse located in a hilltop village in the Dominican rainforest, about 10 minutes inlands from the capital Roseau. There are five handcrafted rooms and a treehouse, each with its own unique interior design. I stayed at the guesthouse for seven days in the warm and inviting Kako room.
I was the only guest on the property, but I did not feel lonely. I enjoyed my conversations with Analisa, the property manager; ate delectable vegetarian meals; and explored the various waterfalls around the area. I also did a few hikes and discovered the best Jamaican patties I had ever had at a restaurant called Patty Shack, located on the way to a nearby village called Wotten Waven.
If you are into land-based adventures, such as hiking, visiting falls and lakes, or you like an excellent canyoning experience (the guesthouse is right next to Extreme Dominica), Cocoa Cottage is the place for you. The property is located a short drive for the starting point of many beautiful hiking trails, including the Waitukubuli National Trails segments 3 and 4; the Morne Trois Piton National Park, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Working with locals, I provide you with uniquely curated experiences and recommendations that get you off the beaten track and into the heart of the community you travel to.
