Are you the "I love hardcore camping" type, or the "I would like a little upgrade" type? I am definitely not a hardcore camper, but there will be no complaints from me if it’s glamping, a situationwhere stunning nature meets modern luxury. 3 Rivers Eco Lodge is a place hardcore campers and glampers alike will love. The establishment also has individual cottage, and dorms. When I visited 3 Rivers Eco Lodge in October, 2020, I fell in love with its concept, its surroundings, its set-up, and its style.
In addition to the scenic surroundings and its style, what makes this establishment mentionable on Edna Explores, is its strong community focus.
Jem and Nicole, the rad and just-plain-cool British and Barbadian couple who own and run 3 Rivers, are deliberate about ensuring that the local community also benefits from tourism. 3 Rivers offers packages, including a Community Experience Package and a Voluntourism Package. Should you choose, you can engage in activities such as spending a night in a nearby local village of Grand Ford or volunteering on ongoing community projects. The prices quoted online are for seven days and for two people. That said, if you are a solo traveler and you are not planning on spending a week at 3 Rivers, contact Jem and Nicole. They will be happy to work with you to create an experience that you will love.
The community-based approach adopted by 3 Rivers is not all that makes the lodge mentionable.
There is an organic farm on-site in addition to loads of fruit trees all over the property. There are also animals on the property, including chickens, rabbits, Gary the donkey, dogs, and cats. Caesar and Dora, the dogs, may playfully lick you, and one of the cats may bring you a dead rodent found in the forest as a gift. If you are an off-the-grid nature person and are comfortable with having animals around, 3 River Eco Lodge is the place for you in Dominica. I for sure will be going back when I return to Dominica.
One last thing, getting there is fun! The 2017 Hurricane Maria destroyed the bridges leading to the lodge. Until the bridges are rebuilt by the government, you get to zip line twice to get there! The zip lines were easy and over too quickly for my liking.
For the budget-conscious traveler, 3 Rivers Eco Lodge is the most budget-friendly accommodation I found in Dominica.
Working with locals, I provide you with uniquely curated experiences and recommendations that get you off the beaten track and into the heart of the community you travel to.
